POE synthetic oils used with HFC or HFC+HFO refrigerants are very hygroscopic since they are composed of a combination of ester acid and alcohol. If the moisture content is higher than 75 ppm, the mixture of oil and water generates acid and alcohol, being a reversible process. At the same time, the presence of moisture in the system also generates acid. To prevent acid generation, chemical products are used: Molecular sieves to capture moisture in channels of 3Å size. The channels can only capture water molecules, which are smaller than refrigerant molecules. Molecular sieves allow maintaining a very low amount of moisture in the system. The efficiency of the molecular sieve is higher than that of active alumina, approximately 3 times higher. Active alumina is used to capture acid from the oil, and moisture with less efficiency than the molecular sieve. The ceramic filters of the TDML series are composed of 100% 3Å molecular sieve, which is the desiccant material with the highest moisture adsorption capacity. Especially recommended for HFC (R-134a, R-404A, R-407C, R-407F, R-410A, R-442A, R-449A, R-453A...). The molecular sieve is presented in the form of balls, which are kept completely compact by means of a strong spring; in this way, the absence of the binder used in compact filters allows greater moisture retention capacity.
