✅ Propane, or R290, is a hydrocarbon used as a refrigerant in domestic refrigerators or small commercial refrigeration appliances and in vending machines. Thanks to its low environmental impact and excellent thermodynamic properties, the use of R290 is increasing.

✅ Propane used in refrigeration applications is not odorised like the type for domestic use (domestic hydrocarbon gas is odorised so that it can be quickly detected in case of a leak), so leaks are not easily detectable.

✅ Propane, like other hydrocarbon-type refrigerants, generally has very good miscibility with any type of lubricant. Due to the good solubility between mineral oils and these refrigerants, some systems may require higher-viscosity oils to compensate for this excess solubility.

✅ When working with hydrocarbon-type refrigerants it is very important that they are of high purity, since any proportion of other impurities, such as sulphur compounds, water, etc., can contribute to the degradation of the system's lubricating oils, compressor failure, etc.
